'An Apology to Elephants' is a brilliant documentary on HBO, that discusses and reveals the harsh treatment of elephants by humans for entertainment, ivory and money. I recommend everyone to see this heart felt documentary.

On September 13th In 1916 a small traveling circus stopped in Kingsport TN where an Asian elephant named Mary trampled her trainer and was then sentenced to death by the angered citizens. They hung her from a construction Crane which broke, causing her to fall to the ground and break her hip, but she was then hanged using a stronger chain where she hung for 30 mins before being lowered into her grave. No, circuses would never get away with this today, but that doesn't change the fact that this is what we've caused by demanding wild animal entertainment. It can have serious consequences for both the trainers and the animals involved. Not to mention its cruel and outdated.
